One legislative body in the District of Columbia has been busy this year . . . the DC Council has enacted a cornucopia of new statutes in 2014 that address many hot button employment issues—pregnancy accommodation, wage theft, background checks and paid sick leave—on which Congress has been unable to act.

Just a note to let our members know that HRA-NCA is now a certified provider of both HRCI and SHRM certification credits.  While the SHRM roll-out is still in test mode, some of our upcoming January events will offer both HRCI and SHRM credits.  We will continue to provide you with updates as we learn more.

On Thursday, November 20, 2014, President Obama laid out his plan to use executive actions to alter the U.S. immigration system. Along with actions that may allow up to five million undocumented immigrants stay in the U.S. and obtain work permits, the President has a plan to help “make it easier and faster for high-skilled immigrants, graduates, and entrepreneurs to stay and contribute to our economy.”
