As an HR Professional, you may have heard 3% tossed around as a good “rule of thumb” number for an Annual Salary Increase Budget for your employees. This ambiguous 3% seems to be something of a profession-wide standard with certain regulations and budgets for instance; many employer contributions for 401k matches start at 3% and Cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) are often estimated at 3% as well.
